   Proposal Description:
   Current treatments for Alzheimer's disease and other dementias are ineffective at altering disease progression. The primary goals and objectives of the proposed research are to further explore the emerging associations between angiotensin II type-1 receptor blockers (ARBs) and neuroimaging/cognitive outcomes in patients with, or at risk for Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, relative to other antihypertensive drug classes. We expect to see greater cognition and less brain atrophy in the subjects who are using ARBs. This research may promote a shift in clinical antihypertensive prescription guidelines in relevant groups.
